Science is for everyone. Yet historically, the regions where we find some of the most exciting biology also hold some of the most excluded populations. By strengthening the general public’s relationship with science, we can extend the reach of our work and enable future generations to continue doing exciting basic research. I have shared my work in different countries, in different languages, to toddlers and seniors, in both formal and informal settings with the goal of being a good representative of the scientific community. Awareness of research opportunities and understanding how to navigate the academic landscape can be a large barrier to entry. Independently of my research activity, I strive to provide guidance and support to academic hopefuls. I have served on panels for undergraduates interested in graduate school, new graduate students, and graduate students hoping to make the next step in their academic careers.
